It’s almost the time of the year when we scoff toffee apples, devour ginger parkin and practise our best ‘ooh’s and ‘ahhh’s. Bonfire Night 2018 is just around the corner and, as ever, there are a number of exciting bonfires and firework displays near Bradford.

Friday 2nd November

Wyke Community and Children’s Centre Firework Display

Time: 6:30pm

Price: Adults £1, Children 50p.

The Wyke Community and Children’s Centre hosts this year’s event, with a range of refreshments on offer for visitors. Expect, sweets, cakes and non-alcoholic drinks. Gates open at 6:30pm and the fireworks begin at 7:30pm. Pay on the gate on the night, but please note that there is no onsite parking, so plan ahead. Public transport is probably your best bet here.


Saturday 3rd November 

Mecure Bradford Bankfield Bonfire and Fireworks Extravaganza

Time: 5pm

Price: £5 per person, under 3s are free.

The Mecure Bradford Bankfield Hotel, between Shipley and Bingley, hosts its annual bonfire event. Gates open at 5pm, with the bonfire lit at 7pm and fireworks at 8pm. You can find refreshments onsite throughout the evening.

Bradford Council has implemented parking restrictions in nearby residential areas, but there is limited parking at the hotel. This costs £2 per person. Alternatively, there is more limited parking at Samuel Lister Academy and at the Yorkshire Clinic. Both are a short stroll from the venue. You are advised to use public transport if possible, with the 662 and 760 buses stopping right outside the hotel on a regular basis. 


West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Bonfire and Fireworks Extravaganza in Birkenshaw

Time: 5pm

Price: Adults £6, Children £4, Under 5s are free.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service put on their annual bonfire event at Fire Service HQ in Birkenshaw on Saturday 3rd November. Gates open at 5pm, with the bonfire lit at 6:30pm. There is a mini firework display at 7:30pm, with low noise fireworks suitable for younger children. The full display begins at 8:30pm. 

You can buy food and drink at the event and there are children’s rides to keep the kids entertained. The Fire Service asks that you do not bring your own sparklers or fireworks. The event is in aid of the Fire Fighters Charity.


Bonfire Night at Holy Trinity Church, Idle

Time: 6pm

Price: Adults £3, Children £2 

The bonfire will be lit at 6pm, with fireworks beginning at 6:45pm. There are a selection of refreshments on offer, with tea, coffee and juice to drink. Adults can indulge in a pie and pea supper, whilst the kids can tuck in to a hotdog supper.


Bonfire Night at the New Inn, Thornton

Time: 4pm

Price: Free

This free event in Thornton kicks off at 4pm, with the bonfire being lit at 5pm. Fireworks start at 7pm. It will be staggered so the louder fireworks come later, allowing small children to enjoy a more low key event early on. You can even bring a firework to contribute to the display, but are urged not to bring sparklers to the event.  

There are pie and peas and hot dogs on offer throughout the event, as well as a vegetarian option. A mobile bar will serve both alcoholic and soft drinks.


20th Bradford South Scouts Group Bonfire in Low Moor

Time: 5:30pm

Price: Adults £3, Children £2, Under 3s are free. 

This annual fireworks event takes place at the Scout Hut on Netherlands Avenue. Gates open at 5:30pm, with the bonfire lit at 6:30pm.

In addition to the fireworks and bonfire, there will be a regular tombola, a chocolate tombola, food and drink, a laser show and other stalls to peruse. Places are limited so make sure you check for availability before you go.


Sunday 4th November

Old Glen House Bonfire and Fireworks Display in Baildon

Time: 6pm

Price: Free

This event, on top of Shipley Glen, begins at 6pm, with the fireworks display at 7pm. Entry is free and you can buy refreshments inside the pub throughout the night.


Monday 5th November

Bonfire Night at The Northern, Halifax Road, Bradford

Time: 6pm

Price: Free

The Northern public house, on Halifax Road in Bradford, hosts its annual bonfire and firework display from 6pm on Bonfire Night. The fire will be lit at that time, with fireworks set off at 7:30pm.

A van will serve hot food and drinks, including a pie and pea supper. Alternatively, you can keep warm inside and watch Huddersfield Town on the TV.
