Easter weekend is the perfect opportunity to explore everything West Yorkshire has to offer for families. From free museum trails and art galleries to steam railway adventures and giant puppet parades, there’s no shortage of ways to keep little ones entertained, and most of them won’t cost you a penny!
We’ve put together a list of five of the best family events taking place this year that you can get involved with over the Easter holidays.
The Easter Express is running from the 5th to 21st April, offering a scenic five-mile journey through the heart of Brontë Country, with six stations to explore. Along the way, you can find out more about railway heritage at the Carriage Works Museum, and stop for refreshments at the Tea Hut at Oakworth Station.
Tickets for the Easter Express are available for both individual and full-day travel, so you can hop on and off at the various stations and enjoy everything the railway offers.

Join the Easter Bunny for a trail and Easter crafts in the grounds of Cliffe Castle Museum in this free family event! Taking place on 28th March from 11:00 to 15:00, there’s no booking required for this fantastic event, just drop in and have a great time.
While you’re there, don’t forget to explore Cliffe Castle Museum’s stunning Victorian halls and beautiful parkland.

Visit Harewood House this Easter to get involved with a fun day out for the family. Take part in the Golden Egg Heist Trail, where children can help solve the mystery of a stolen golden egg hidden somewhere in the estate gardens. Along the way, little explorers can follow clues, enjoy spring crafts and discover activities around the grounds.
You have from Saturday 18th March until Sunday 19th April to take part in the Golden Egg Heist Trail. Tickets are £3.50 per child, plus admission. Visit the Harewood House website to find out more and book tickets for the event.
Bradford Cathedral is hosting free family activities on Tuesday 7th April, with crafts, colouring, trails, quizzes and fun for all the family. with family-friendly guided tours at 11am and 2pm.
You are also welcome to visit the Cathedral with your family and do your own self-guided tour. Trails and quizzes are also available, as are refreshments. There are lots of things to do, see and discover.
This Easter, Ilkley BID have launched a fun-filled Easter Bunny Trail. The bunnies will be hiding in shops around town, and anyone who finds them all will be entered into a prize draw to win a Hotel Chocolat Ostrich Egg Patisserie (that’s over a kilo of chocolate)!
The trail will be running from the 28th March to the 12th April, with entry forms available soon at www.discoverilkley.co.uk.
